Once the test results are evaluated, we will discuss with you any findings and recommendations that might be useful. Often something as simple as a diet change can extend a pet's life and prevent diseases. You may choose any doctor you wish to be in charge of your pet's profile. We hope you will take advantage of this preventative medicine approach. Our goal is to keep our patients healthy and happy for many years to come.
We will provide an estimate for this and all services we offer. Please ask!
Information about Geriatric Preventative Medicine
In our efforts to maintain high-quality patient care, a yearly group of tests called a "Geriatric Profile" is offered for pets between 4 and 8 years depending on the breed and general health. The purpose of the tests is to identify silent conditions that might exist so that an early cure or a long-term management plan can be instituted, thereby extending the life of the pet and preventing debilitating conditions.
The Profile includes:
A complete history from you (or the person who best knows the pet). |
A complete physical examination including eyes, ears, mouth and teeth, heart and lungs, lymph nodes, skin, anal glands, pads and nails, palpation of the abdomen (to detect enlarged organs, painful areas), palpation of joints and bones and a report card to you describing our findings. |
An extensive panel of blood tests including an evaluation of liver enzymes, kidney function, pancreas, blood glucose, potassium, calcium, sodium, chloride, cholesterol and protein levels, thyroid function and a complete blood count to evaluate the red and white blood cells and platelets. |
